Increasing in oversight and intensity of therapeutic services, admission to a residential treatment center (RTC) is reserved for those students who need to be in a clinically intensive, closely supervised, and highly structured environment. RTCs range from interventional hospital-based locked facilities to small, nurturing programs with a level of family-like intimacy that belies the clinical intensity of the therapeutic programming. RTCs include highly specialized programs for eating disorders, substance abuse and other addictions, sexual behavioral issues, sexual trauma, and severe attachment disorder, as well as programs for students with anxiety, depression, and other mood or personality disorders.
